Sinopsis:

A small trace of blood on the floor is silent witness of a tragedy about to come to an end, while on the brink of death, victim of an unpunished crime, Alice is about to realize that, sometimes, the dreams end long before beginning.

Project Description:

"¿Quién asesinó a Alicia?" (Who killed Alicia) is a personal project created as a response to the campaign of decriminalization of abortion in Mexico.

The purpose of the film is to take the abortion debate beyond the issue "right" or "wrong", trying to evidence all the actors who participate, directly or indirectly, in that decision every day: whether we are family, friends, colleagues, or those who "doesn't even care".

Also, the project aims to demonstrate the psychological violence that women are subjected to, especially young ones, when there is an unplanned pregnancy in our society.

Finally, the project also seeks to provide a more human view on abortion, away from the trivialized concept of "the right to life" and focusing on something even less tangible, but so present on the day by day of the people: the possibility of dreaming.

Project Details:

In terms of language, the film uses mainly surrealism and expressionism resources in order to humanize the characters and provide them with a wider emotional dimension, as well as to generate a more direct dialogue with the spectator's emotions, keeping away from the racionality of particular situations.

In addition to that, the editing uses a lot of contemplative shots, slow camera movements, timeless scenes and not surprising actions in order to promote the introspection and thoughtful contemplation.

In this way, the project is intended to open the dialogue towards different contexts and situations, and encourage a greater interpretative diversity that, beyond the public's applause, favors the questioning, criticism, debate and, therefore, a new opportunity to reconsider mindsets.

On a technical level, the shortfilm was completely done in 3ds max (modeling, mapping, animation of objects, cameras, lighting and renders), with textures made in Photoshop. As for character animation, the skinnings were created with bipeds in 3ds Max and exported to be animated in Motion Builder. Finally, the video was treated in After Effects, primarily for color correction and application of some visual effects, and edited in Premiere Pro.
